  • Root Cause!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about light and health, why Willie and I talk about it so much, and why it feels so important to bring this issue to the forefront.

Yesterday, I heard a news piece about endometriosis in women. It used to affect one in ten women in Ireland. Now, it’s one in five.

I completely agree that we need all the supports possible to help women navigate something as debilitating as endometriosis. I’ve seen the impact up close: both my mother and my sister have suffered from it. I know how devastating it can be.

But when I hear figures like one in five or even one in ten, I can’t help but think about the bigger question:

What is the root cause?

It really struck me. If so many women are suffering, is something in our environment playing a role? Is there something we can change before we reach the point where medical procedures and interventions are the only path left?

This is why the relationship between light and health feels so personal to me. It’s my area, my small way of trying to solve part of the problem before people end up in the doctor’s office.

How does light affect health?

Natural light is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. But artificial light, especially when it disrupts our sleep, can be profoundly damaging.

Sleep isn’t just rest. It’s when our bodies heal and repair the damage from today, yesterday, and all the days before.

If we don’t sleep well, our immune system weakens, our hormones go out of balance, and our resilience against disease slowly erodes and I’m not even mentioning UV and Infrared benefits of light!

That’s why I feel so passionately about helping people understand the impact of light on their health. If even one person out of that one in five finds relief or prevention because of what I share about lighting, then I’ve done my job.

I know personally how hard it is to struggle with health challenges. When we couldn’t conceive naturally, I went on the journey of IVF, a journey that turned my life upside down from sauna’s to red light therapy! And to finally hold my babies in my arms made every sacrifice worth it. And these are fundamentals that I still do to this day!

I want to be there to support every single woman, man and child to try to find their way to health and healing. Whether or not they ever need medical intervention, I want them to know, there are steps that can be taken to protect their wellbeing, and light is one of them.

That’s my thought for today. If this resonates with you, or you’d like to learn more about creating healthier light in your life, I’m here.
