Central Plaza Dublin

AN OPPORTUNITY TO INNOVATE AN URBAN REDEVELOPMENT

Central Plaza is a landmark redevelopment on Dame Street in Dublin city centre. Formerly the Central Bank of Ireland headquarters, the project preserves its distinctive brutalist architecture while introducing modern enhancements to the main plaza and public realm. We were appointed to develop the detailed lighting design for the façade and plaza, building on an initial concept by a UK designer.

TAILORED ADDITIONS TO THE TRANSFORMATION

DISCOVERY & CONCEPT

Frequent workshops with the client and design team were held to accelerate the detailed design phase and progress toward procurement. A key focus during the specification development and lighting layout detailing was to ensure adherence to both budget and timelines, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and design intent.

DESIGN & TECHNICAL PLANNING

We provided detailed design, lighting modelling and specification for both plaza and façade lighting, ensuring a cohesive and impactful lighting solution. To ensure the desired lighting effects were achieved and installation was seamless, we created video mock-ups of the lighting installation, offering a clear visualization of the final outcome and facilitating an efficient installation process. Many late night on-site mockups were key to ensuring the proposed installation details integrated seamlessly with the existing and proposed building structure, ensuring compatibility without requiring major architectural design modifications.

CONSTRUCTION & PROCUREMENT

We provided a comprehensive project management of the lighting design process, overseeing procurement and supply, while liaising with strict Dublin City Council guidelines and BCAR (Building Control Amendment Regulations) & DAC (Disability Access) certification process.

REFINEMENT

Each design detail was carefully finalised with a coordinated management of the contractors onsite that guaranteed a lighting installation to the highest standards. From the bespoke designed 9 meter lamp poles to the hidden integrated handrail lighting, every element was meticulously planned and implemented.

COMPLETION, HANDOVER & AFTERCARE

We successfully delivered the final design within the established timeline, while achieving notable savings in the lighting budget. A key benefit for our client was having a single point of contact for all aspects of lighting, as we designed, supplied and liaised with contractors and managed the lighting fit-out. Consistent communication ensured that the client was fully informed and up-to-date at every stage of the process.
