Ice House Hotel Mayo

DETAIL

The lighting design process on the Icehouse was very hands on, with late night mock-ups a crucial step in articulating the concept to the client and testing possible effects. When working with existing spaces, mocking up lighting is such an invaluable step in the process for us.

As part our process we provided;

  • Detailed survey of site, analysing key features to light, locations to conceal lighting and opportunities to use existing infrastructure.
  • Concept workshops with the client, including on site nighttime mock-up workshop.
  • Mocking up of lighting on site to test and detail best lighting solution.
  • Detailed drawings showing lighting and lighting set out.
  • Design and detailing of integrated lighting.
  • Specification of lighting.
  • Management of lighting costs to ensure in line with budget.
  • Snagging and sign off.
  • Setup and commissioning of lighting control system (Bluetooth Casambi system was design, supplied and installed as part of our remit)
  • Nighttime scene setting and setup for the client.
  • Contractor liaison and management of final installation details.

FINAL OUTCOME

  • This project was successfully completed in 2022. The restaurant with the aid of highlighting the form and texture through very warm 2400K lighting from an angle combined with blue uplighting increasing the ambience and also a nod to its previous use as an ice house.
  • We used rechargeable table lamps on the tables to provide the functional lighting here while also creating focus. This works giving the dual focus that was an integral part of the concept, enabling us to leave the ceiling clean of too many spotlighting and putting the emphasise on the incredible barrel vault.
